poznámka:
Skupina XYZ združuje spoločné tvorivé aktivity Milana Tittela (1966) a Mateja Gavulu (1972), ktorí pod touto značkou figurujú na slovenskej výtvarnej scéne od roku 1997. Obaja autori, zameraním sochári, tvoria v intenciách intermediálnych výpovedí a využívajú podnety konceptualizmu a minimalizmu. Východiská vlastnej disciplíny podrobujú neustálemu preverovaniu a vždy nanovo sa usilujú o autentickú výtvarnú skúsenosť, ktorú dávajú často v surovom stave k dispozícii divákovi. Popri klasických sochárskych postupoch využívajú najmä tvorbu priestorových situácií a prácu s nájdeným objektom. Významnú časť ich tvorby predstavuje fotografia a video. Hybridná povaha ich výtvarnej činnosti preto počíta s efemérnymi, nestabilnými, krehkými a prchavými situáciami. Bez nutnosti aranžovania a mimo princípu vlastníctva zapájajú a obohacujú všedné prvky každodenného života.Agenda XYZ spočíva v tichej práci, ktorou je označovanie situácií. XYZ si vyberajú a skúmajú situácie, ktoré majú nenápadný, rutinný až banálny charakter. Neuplatňujú kritiku kolektívnych utópií a dôsledne sa vyhýbajú tomu, aby dodatočne manifestovali akýkoľvek skrytý ideový obsah.
Nechýba im dávka humoru a sebairónie. Parodizujú ekonomické vzťahy, nevynímajúc tie, čo riadia mechanizmy umeleckej prevádzky. Generujú a vysielajú vibrácie v hre medzi okamihom digitálneho záznamu a objektívnou prítomnosťou plastickej hmoty. Ich neodmysliteľnou súčasťou je impulz s otvoreným koncom.

The XYZ group connects common creative activities of Milan Tittel (1966) and Matej Gavula (1972) who have been acting under this brand since 1997. Both authors, originally sculptors, create within the intentions of inter-media statements and use impulses of conceptualism and minimalism. They submit the basis of their own discipline to a constant verification, and they always, again and again, endeavour to apply authentic artistic experience, which they often serve in its raw state to the observer. Among classical sculpturing processes they use mainly the creation of space situations and work with a found-out object. A considerable part of their work is represented by photography and video. Therefore, the hybrid nature of their artistic activity counts with ephemeral, non-stabile, fragile and evaporating situations. Using minimal shifting as well as complex technologies they enter the zone of ordinary phenomena. Their work is based on extended understanding of the sensibility of sculpturing and plastic depiction. Within this extensive field, they observe processes of a material transformation of objects. By their interfering within the frontiers of image, object and sound they activate a concrete space. By this they appeal to the viewers to perform an active participation in the space, their employing of intuition and getting rid of the accustomed schemes of behaviour. Without the need of arranging, and outside the principle of ownership, they connect and enrich plain elements of an everyday life.
The agenda of the XYZ is based on a quiet work which is the marking of situations. The XYZ select and examine situations which have an unpretentious, routine, almost banal character. They do not apply a criticism of collective utopias and they are thorough in omitting their additional manifestation of any hidden ideological purport. Photographs and video work here mainly as a means of documenting, nevertheless, their usage is not completely exhausted. Tittel and Gavula present themselves as documentarists, directors and often also as actors of their object situations. We can ask a question what is the function of digital record in relation to the action of these situations. The using of video limits the action; it addresses it to viewers and leaves it to flow as a live, non-arranged space composition. The result of these, sometime coincidentally found, sometime assisted object situations are works oscillating among video, audio installations and sculpture objects. This oscillation could be named as the medially transformed sculpture.
In the XYZ videos, the sculpture is presented as a fusion of material reactions of different levels and directions, as a fluid medium, as an open space net or place activated to the situation. The purpose of the sculpture is not to take a given place by placing it in space, it is otherwise, its purpose is to examine space relations with their connections to social and political elements. Works by the XYZ are therefore characteristic for their balancing between lability and stability, using of matter and its getting rid of. They do not miss a huge dose of humour and self-sarcasm. They parody economical relationships, not omitting those which drive the mechanisms of artistic management. They generate and transmit vibrations in a play between the moment of digital record and objective presence of plastic matter. Their typical components are impulses with an open end.
